Ok during the flashback in the beginning and Don with the milk on the stove, at the end, when it's reduced and he scoops it out....what it looks like, not a coincidence
Suitcase, Sally hammering it. Remember she was tossed in the closet after smoking, saying his suitcase is there plus the other obvious symbollism of Don being gone.
Don's pillow talk with Betty, about the beach etc making her feel good, she says something like you can talk anyone into anything, like she's said before in a negative way. Except now she likes it of course.
I loved that Cooper was still into the art, and his Rothko from last year is still there.
The girls call Mr. Hooker, "John".
Hollis still on the elevator.
Stewardess said something about people thinking she's a model, Betty modeled.
Did you catch that Sal and Don are "Words and Pictures", just like Kurt and Smitty last year when SC decided to try that kind of direction?
Cosgrove got "The Relaxasizor" (sp), if you remember that little product from season 1....
And I thought this was interesting, near the very end, Pete comes to Don, just like he did in the finale last year when Don says basically he believed Pete could handle it so Pete tells him about the merger. It was close to the same thing, till Pete sees Don is not alone and then clams up. I thought that was great, so congruous with last year..
London Fog wasn't the product name, but the theme of the new Sterling Cooper. kicking myself for not catching that the first time
Is the guy who gives both Pete and Ken the job.. in Don's office?
This is twice now Pete has been promised a promotion, yat it's screwed up. I'm still waiting for him to snap.
It makes more sense watching the immediate repeat, but watching Don and Sal as the two guys working over the girls: They're going good, yet one is not exactly into it for the long-run. But, I love the effort Sal gives anyway, kinda like taking one for the team. Not the first wingman you'd choose but you have to love the effort. Great use of the advertising skills to pull his responsibility as the wingman.
My post wouldn't come up at the other site. I was somewhat disappointed by tonight's episode. Did they get new writers? Lots of references to Dick and how he got his name...the whole set-up with Don's flashback was contrived. Betty's lesbian reference--wouldn't have happened back in 1962-63. Don falling in bed with some stewardess--after the way last season ended. Tacky! Sal and the bellboy--done for shock value. The guy who got fired going off in his office with lots of screaming and yelling sound effects--it was like something from a bad comedy. I would give the episode a grade of C. Anyway, I love the show and will be watching next week, hoping for improvement.
Ok for the sake of discussion I'll offer disagreements from the first anonymous:
The Don flashback thing is tough bc I think there's gonna be more later on so I think everyone has a confused opinion. But you're not wrong for not being all about it.
The opinion about lesbians and tools, I think it's about comments behind closed doors. We're reacting as if someone public like a celebrity or politicain said that now. They said in this scene behind doors, so I opt to believe it was a behind doors thing than a social/time error.
I think the thing with Sal was about not what we saw for shock value, and yeah I was grossed out and didn't watch so sue me for being honest, but It's ultimately about the growth about a minor character; in additiion to his similarity about Don hiding things.
Those 2, just like Don and Peggy have a lil in general in common; not specifics. That's why Don says limit your exposure. Don has that same thing regarding his past so Don doesn't freak out; just like when he saw Peggy in the flashback hospital scene way earlier in season 1. It's not about shock value, it's about the analogy of season 1 with Peggy,
As far as Don falling in bed with the stewardess, did you get that yeah he did initial kissing, but he kept making her undress ( not as a sexual foreplay like most women will think) but instead like a stall tactic bc he was troubled, contemplating what to do... (like the asian waitress early last year)
Why people are having an issue over Sal and the bellboy, I don't know but BRAVO to Sal for going for it. I totally did not get why the fire alarm went off right when it was getting totally HOT with Sal and the bellboy until someone mentioned it. I wonder if Matthew Weiner realized that when he wrote it. He had to write the script in a way that Don would discover what Sal was doing and that meant that Don had to see what Sal was doing from a window. And what other way for Don to see but going down the fire escape! I LOVED the storyline and hope they keep it up. Sal deserves some good lovin! I loved the first episode of Season 3 and cannot wait until next Sunday! I have both seasons 1 and 2 on DVD and have watched them over and over again! Brilliant!
What exactly is wrong with the website?? I can hardly type a comment...scroll the screen...or close it out! Anyway, I really enjoyed the season opener. You have to love the stewardess hiding her breasts with her girdle still on.LOL!! Betty actually uttered the word "lesbian"...wow! Pregnancy brings out the raunchiness in Betty. Was Salvatore late to the meeting because he and the bellboy DID get it on after all? Someone on one of the latest threads mentioned "shock value", but forgot to leave out Cooper's latest Asian painting....OK, THAT was the most "shocking" thing on the show!! Loved that....and the way Don sort of glanced at it as he came in the door. It reminds Coop of their business?? That killed me.
Ok...so am I the only one disappointed? I waited so long for this and to prepare myself watched both seasons one and two over the last 3 weeks. 'Meditations in an Emergency' (the last episode of season 2) was incredible...so thickly layered and full of meaning...the writers really got into the context and worked it like pros...then I download season 3, episode 1 and the only thing to like is the fact the same people are still there at Sterling Cooper...as someone else posted: is there new writers on the show?
Did anyone notice that Pete did not get any of the Peggy accounts? (Belle Jolie, Popcycle, Rejuvanizer, etc.) He didn't even seem to notice...he was a one MAD man.

Nary a Banana Republic suit in sight, thank God!

Did you catch when Coop is discussing the painting, then Don walks in and Coop says "We were just talking about you". That was great.
