The literary triptych

Stories always come in threes. Every story is a three act play, stories always have three main characters and a love triangle always has three. The peace sign also has three bottom prongs. If you really wanna get deep the pyramid is the most solid structure to build because of it being three sides leaning on each other for support.

Three found peace. The three who have always been the three main characters of the triangle: love in different forms along the way in that triangle among those three and they did the theme of love triangle all series long in such an exploratory and successful way. Bravo MM.

Tonight: Betty has found peace in making her own decision. Acceptance. Don has found peace in his own decision to stay there because he is now accepted with nothing owed as opposed to being accepted because he’s used (and willing-so on his part bc he liked the attention). Peggy has had more than one man who would have liked to have been with her but she never accepted the fact that that can happen to her. She does now with Stan. Acceptance. Sometimes death is about fighting. Sometimes death is about acceptance. The show passed away tonight, with the theme of acceptance. You can look at death as an end, or as moving on, a chapter turning. The latter was the series finale. Mad Men has passed away, and we all are giving the eulogy.

I thought the key moment of bringing Don and Peggy together was in the group with Stephanie talking about being without her child and the character Angie saying, “what I feel is sadness bc your child will always be looking at the door… waiting for you to walk in”.

Decisions have consequences, even if the decision is encouraged and applauded. And many times those decisions have very negative consequences; but those who applaud in online forums don’t have to deal with any of it and have no guilt on their own hands; that’s when it’s easy to encourage and applaud. Just remember that.

Here it was Don hearing Stephanie, he thought of and felt for Peggy. So, Don calls Peggy.

The one who brought him to a place, literally which is metaphorically, of acceptance is Stephanie. She grabs his car and leaves. Now here’s the question: Was he at the very bottom of bottoming out on life in one of the few he can trust totally robbed him… or… was she yet another angel for him in a tough-love kind of way?? Hurting him to help him. Oooooo…. ? Don through the seasons had given Peggy such tough-love.

Peggy finds acceptance in accepting someone loves her. That moves her on. Don finds acceptance in a group and smiles, moving him on. Betty accepts the idea of about to be in a better place. I really believe in the past two episodes it’s been Betty the stronger character of the three. Betty is making lemons out of lemonade for her own self. All three of them in their own way seek a home. Betty is going back to college, even having trouble up the stairs but she is going back. I find more strength in that than in Don going back to Anna’s. Think about that.

Three main characters, three emotional draining experiences. Peace has three legs.

I've read your blog for years and always love your thoughts. This was a really lovely ending to the show. I needed to see growth and progression and I saw that! Bravo!
